Almost a poem. I was looking through some old Halloween stuff, and found a set of clues for a Halloween scavenger hunt. I thought that I had written these, but Kathleen tells me that we collaborated on them for Will.
Halloween is filled with treats –
Go look where the furry beast eats.
A scary ghost or a dark black cat –
Look below the welcome mat.
Before the midnight moon does fade,
Look where Halloween costumes get made.
While Jack O’ Lantern slowly turns,
Look where fires sometime burn.
Things alive and nearly dead –
Look where William lays his head.
A vampire’s fangs, a werewolf’s claws –
Look inside the Monster’s jaws.
The witches spell book turns a page.
Look in Sam and Walter’s cage.
I think the fury beast is the dog – probably Leo at the time. The monster’s jaws was probably my front door Halloween decoration. Sam and Walter also must have been pets – maybe dwarf hamsters? I know we started with two dwarf hamsters – we thought we bought two males, but Kathleen figured out one was female – and didn’t tell us. We then ended up with multiple generations…
I don’t remember the structure of this. I don’t know if there was a ‘prize’ at each location, or whether these clues formed a sequence (each clue pointing to the next clue) – with the prize being at the end. I’m guessing it was a single prize at the end..
