Almost sounds like a riddle — maybe it is?
I was sent to be your guide
I’ll be always by your side
By a trick of the light, you might think I appear
Though you never will see me, I will always be near

Poems, stories, and scraps — both new and old. [☆ = best stuff] [CLASSIC = written long ago]
Riddles, most old but some newer. Many used for Dungeons & Dragons in college, some written with help from my brother Rick. I’ve posted answers, but they are guesses (because I didn’t write down the answers). If you have a better guess/answer, let me know.
Almost sounds like a riddle — maybe it is?
I was sent to be your guide
I’ll be always by your side
By a trick of the light, you might think I appear
Though you never will see me, I will always be near
Who makes it, has no need of it
Who buys it, has no use for it
Who uses it can neither see nor feel it
Whoever makes it, tells it not
Whoever takes it, knows it not
And whoever knows it wants it not
From light and gentle morning kiss
To hot and angry screaming hiss
Has many faces, many names
But over all the world it reigns
Without a wound, like blood it spreads
Heatless fire, silent foe
Drawing life from trusted friends
The seeds of weakness doth it sow
It falls for a time, but never reaches the bottom
It rises thereafter, but cannot make the top
The higher you go, the lower it gets
A foe of age
A friend of youth
Looks never the same
But always speaks truth
Below is a recent riddle intended for my story similar to Alice in Wonderland — more here. The main character’s name is Jillian. In a minute I’ll post a passage or two from the story, including the account of Jillian trying to solve this riddle.
