I’m guessing that this is another example of one of my siblings ending a story that I left sitting in the typewriter. The humorous main character description, his death, and the capitalized THE END are the giveaways.
The shadows reached silently across the ruddy shore of the great sea, signaling the approaching night. The fishermen unhurriedly beached their small vessels and secured them for the night, before trudging wearily across the sand toward the village – darker silhouettes against the moonless night. Little talk was exchanged as they carried their meager catches – for they knew that most of what was caught today would be eaten this night, and that a worse day would leave many a hungry stomach because of the lack of reserves.
Bo, the big fisherman, entered his shabby wooden hut. He tossed his gear across the cabin into a dark grimy corner, and entered the second room of his two-room hut. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, a wet, dark piece of leather drooping from her mouth, was his wife Tar Hanna. She grunted a greeting, and went back to the work of softening the material for his sandal straps. Bo paid her no attention as he crossed the room to the balsa cabinet which was their food storage chest. He opened the cabinet and took out a dried piece of salted fish along with a coconut shell of distilled water. Suddenly, he felt the warm wet leather wrapped around his neck, slowly tightening, squeezing the life blood from his veins. He died, and pooed his pants.
Too many cooks spoil the broth. The curtains parted, revealing a huge luminous face.
“Too bad,” said Bo’s wife. “I liked his bulbous blue head, his large hairy hands, his long glowing ears, his bright orange eyebrows, and his mischievous smile.”
“But unfortunately,” she continued, “I did not like the water he distilled in his coconuts!”
All this talk , however, sounded just like a big babble – because we cannot understand her language.
“…..no, no, no,” said Bo, as he was dragged to the place of the dead. Three ghouls grasped each of his legs, and all six of the ghouls wore a silly grin.
