The mob seethed in anger at the words of the lone speaker. The speaker’s face was red, and he was screaming vehemently to be heard over the roar of the menacing crowd. Somewhere, the chant began: kill, Kill, KILL! Then, as one, the mob rushed toward the platform and smothered the speaker with their mass. Another of their number stepped up to take his place.
“Those mindless fools,” a bystander commented, but the crowd kept up their activity until only a single speaker remained — yelling at a mass of dead bodies strewn at his feet.
“I agree,“ said another, “but how else can it be done?”
“I don’t know.”
Finally, the speaker realized that he was the last, and a smile touched his face. The man then picked his way through the fallen bodies. The few spectators that were there watched impassively as the newly-selected President of the United States made his way toward them.
