Bliss

Years ago, Microsoft used a desktop background image for their Windows XP operating system which they titled ‘Bliss’. Windows was a widely-used OS at the time, and an artsy image got lots of attention. Turns out, this was a photo of a hill in wine country not too far from my house — it’s between the cities of Sonoma and Napa. I found the location, and took a photo — which I cropped to match the MS image. The result is here.

My image was taken years ago, so the hill is probably a fully grown vineyard by now.

This image is notable for its significance, and the well-maintained permitter flowers. (Forgive the woman taking a selfie.) We visited New York City, and found a memorial to John Lennon near where he was shot dead. Truly sad.

I’ve been neglecting this site. I have an artistic eye (at least I think I do), and snap a lot of artsy photos — but I don’t publish them here.

Well.. I’ve gone through my photos, and identified more than 150 that are good enough to add here. My plan is drop maybe 10 a week, and get them posted here over the next few months.

New Heights

View from Salesforce Tower — the new, tallest building in San Francisco. It’s almost like looking out an airplane window. Ironic, because tech companies (like Salesforce) are recognizing with the pandemic that workers can be remote and still be productive — and are reducing their office space commitment in the city. Had Salesforce known about the pandemic and its impact, there might never have been a ‘Salesforce Tower’.

Winter Lake

I’ve been posting a lot of photos, so it’s time to post some artwork. Here is an item I worked on a few weeks back. I’ve kind of stalled on it, but had a vision of refining the trees, and maybe adding shadows/lighting to the lake and hills. Since I haven’t touched it for weeks, I will post it — and I’ll update it if/when I improve upon it.

Local Giant

This is a view up one of the redwood trees in my backyard — we have seven. They are beautiful, but a pain — lots of associated maintenance. Some have dozens (scores?) of spiderwebs between the branches certain times of year. It’s possible we’re the spider breeding ground for the entire neighborhood.

My wife is a good poser. This is at a winery in Paso Robles — a fun trip, we’ve been to Paso Robles a couple of times now.

Winter Morning Fog

An interesting thing about living near the coast with a big daily temperature swing is — some days start quite wet/foggy. These photos are both from January (two different days), when I was leaving my house to commute to work in San Francisco. The first from my front door, the second from my bus stop.

Seems odd (and sad) that my ‘art’ site is the least attractive of my 3 sites (writings, blog, and art). I’ll need to fluff the appearance over the next few days. Hopefully, but the time you read this, the site will be amazing…

Where is this? Some swanky hotel? An art gallery?

No, it’s the Restoration Hardware store in Marin — which has a great location and view — and a popular restaurant, with a typical two-hour wait! (for walk-ins)
