Fireworks
With the recent fires (and now covid) a long-standing Petaluma tradition has ended. It used to be that the city allowed everyone to set off low-end fireworks, the sale of which benefitted local sports teams, clubs, organizations, etc. For example, Will’s soccer team used to man a booth where we would buy ours.
We’d have a party in the court every year — it was a lot of fun.
Color Contrast
Good lighting is important. A late morning walk — with good sun and shadows — can really emphasize colors. This is a plant along the path near my house.

Autumn?
There’s a HUGE amount of attention given to the US northeast around the broad sweep of autumn colors — people specifically visit to see expanses of red/orange/yellow trees. BUT, this phenomena happens worldwide, even here in California.
Anyway, here’s a path a few hundred feet from my house with fallen leaves.
Local Giant
This is a view up one of the redwood trees in my backyard — we have seven. They are beautiful, but a pain — lots of associated maintenance. Some have dozens (scores?) of spiderwebs between the branches certain times of year. It’s possible we’re the spider breeding ground for the entire neighborhood.
Winter Morning Fog
An interesting thing about living near the coast with a big daily temperature swing is — some days start quite wet/foggy. These photos are both from January (two different days), when I was leaving my house to commute to work in San Francisco. The first from my front door, the second from my bus stop.
Beer Goggles
Surprisingly artsy pic taken at Lagunitas beer garden the evening before it was closing down in Dec 2020 because of a pandemic flare-up. (Ignore the guy with the beer belly.)
