Feeling SLO

When Will was considering schools, one on his list was Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo (SLO) — a school with a good reputation. Will did well in high school, graduating near the top of his class — so we naively figured he’d have an easy time getting into schools. He applied to Cal Poly, but didn’t get in, even though some of his friends did. We later learned that his friends locked in Cal Poly by using an ‘early admission / I will go if you accept me’ commitment process (don’t remember what it’s called) that encourages the school to take you — since they know you won’t pass on them for a better school. Will ended up going to UC Santa Cruz, and it’s worked out well for him, but anyway — about this photo…

This is a photo of the courtyard of a hotel in SLO that we stayed at when Will was touring Cal Poly, and they were serving 805 beer all evening (cheap? free? don’t remember) which is a nice buttery amber. (805 is their telephone area code.) I drank a lot. It was good. That was my intro to 805 beer.

Special Delivery

Wouldn’t this be a lovely package to receive in the mail?

We went to a Penn and Teller show is Las Vegas, and they invited the audience on stage to inspect the props before the show. My cute wife thought it funny to pose in this box.

Great show, by the way. And I got to take this woman home.

Beauty and the Bridge

I’ve come to realize that good photos have wide visual contrast: light vs dark, bright colors vs black, etc. This photo is from a neighborhood near Washington DC — I think. (I’m having problems finding the original in my photo library.)

Here are a couple photos of the Golden Gate Bridge — one without fog, one with. One of the (few) benefits of bussing to/from SF is — you’re higher up than other commuters, and so have a good view of your surroundings.

Video Stars

I’m realizing that this site is as much an adventure/travel site as it is an ‘art’ site. Lots of good stories. This pic is from a bar in the boonies (Bodega) where we were extras in a David Luning music video. Ann is making friends with a local. Autumn?

There’s a HUGE amount of attention given to the US northeast around the broad sweep of autumn colors — people specifically visit to see expanses of red/orange/yellow trees. BUT, this phenomena happens worldwide, even here in California.

Anyway, here’s a path a few hundred feet from my house with fallen leaves.
