Jan 2020
Ok, I’m back.
I resolved for 2020 to pursue 3 tracks — art, writing, and music — and produce one tangible product for each track each month. Aggressive I know, but without a challenging stretch goal, I know I’d just sit around and not accomplish much of anything. Across all 3 tracks, I’m progressing at 50% of the heroic pace I chose — which isn’t that bad.
Here’s my January art: a digital painting. I’d show you the original from which it was drawn, but it would just make mine look bad. I tried an exercise that I discovered online, which is to split a face down the middle, and try to draw the other half. I did this for each half of the face, combined it, then cleaned it up. Note that this is entirely freehand — nothing from the original photo was included.
I could keep polishing/refining it forever, but it’s time to move on. (Actually, now that I’ve posted it, I see that I could blend the skin a bit better — which I may invest maybe another 15 minutes to do. Ok, I’ve improved it — yes, it was worse.)
