Note that Damascus is not a seaport, which only adds to the lunacy. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Old poem, recently finished.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>What got the writing of this poem going was the subtle alliterative wordplay in the first few lines.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>\u201cNot the mad, nor the damned,<br \/>\n\u201cNor the damned mad<br \/>\n\u201cWill carry M\u2019dam to Damascus.<br \/>\n\u201cAs for us,\u201d said we,<br \/>\n\u201cFor a minimal fee,<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ll ferry you there if you ask us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked on with doubt<br \/>\nAs our ears flapped about<br \/>\nAnd our smiles slowly broadened to grins<br \/>\n\u201cI do need the ride,\u201d<br \/>\nShe saw fit to confide,<br \/>\n\u201cBut I hear there is danger in twins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not fear, do not fret.<br \/>\n\u201cYou won\u2019t even get wet.<br \/>\n\u201cAs our boat is surprisingly sound.<br \/>\n\u201cIt was made from a pail<br \/>\n\u201cWith swiss cheese for a sail.<br \/>\n\u201cOnly half of our crewmen have drowned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We set off at noon<br \/>\nBy the light of the moon<br \/>\nHoping to get there by dawn<br \/>\nWe were in a hurry<br \/>\nWhich caused her some worry<br \/>\nBut we lessened her stress with a yawn<\/p>\n<p>Halfway to our goal<br \/>\nWe encountered a hole<br \/>\nOn the top of the head of a whale<br \/>\nIt was pulling us in<br \/>\nBe we saved with a spin<br \/>\nAnd continued our path without fail<\/p>\n<p>The ocean was rough<br \/>\nWhich made sailing quite tough<br \/>\nThough the boat mostly progressed as planned<br \/>\nIt took us a while<br \/>\nBut we maintained a smile<br \/>\nAnd eventually made it to land<\/p>\n<p>She paid us our fare<br \/>\nAs she flipped back her hair<br \/>\nAnd we carried her luggage ashore<br \/>\nWe waved her goodbye<br \/>\nWith a wink in our eye<br \/>\nAnd moved on to collect even more<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tweedledum and Tweedledee are characters from Lewis Carroll&#8217;s Alice books.
