I remember writing this. My intention was to present\u00a0nonsense phrases in a serious manner so that it sounded like some deep poem. It’s easy to write verse after verse when there’s no underlying\u00a0meaning (relax, I didn’t write verse after verse). I like\u00a0the\u00a0rhyming scheme and may someday steal it for something else.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve realized that\u00a0this poem (8-8-10-8-8-10),\u00a0intentionally or not, has a similar\u00a0structure to\u00a0Billy Joel’s <\/em>You May be Right<\/a>\u00a0(8-8-11-7-7-11) —\u00a0which has been playing in my head all morning. What kicked off\u00a0the mental music was me ending a line with ‘alone’\u00a0which matches how a line ends in Billy Joel’s song.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The wind the weeping willow bent
\nSoftly, ever reverent
\nTo lie between the earth and endless sky
\nAlas, the truth be never known
\nTo wander wondering, alone
\nSkin deep! the cry is raised as by the by<\/p>\n

The struggle mightily is lost
\nA leaf, a storm, a ship is tossed
\nThe crow is spared the scorpion’s last sting
\nAs one we never more shall be
\nNaked for eternity
\nThe jester hastens lest he best the king<\/p>\n

Tremulous, with head held high
\nThe soldier bids his kids goodbye
\nAnd barren fields may one year put forth grain
\nAlive but living in a dream
\nThe silence shredded by a scream
