Decades ago, folk singer Steve Goodman released the song <\/em>Talk Backwards (link<\/a>) describing a fictitious trend where people were switching to speaking\u00a0words and sentences backwards. The concept inspired this poem (which I wrote in the 1980’s when Reagan was president) which describes one man’s struggles adjusting to this new speaking convention. The poem is naughty (concepts, language), and not politically correct. Apologies in advance to the thin-skinned. \ud83d\ude41\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/center>Since the country switched to Backwards
\nI think I’ve had enough
\nMy lady tailor slapped me
\nWhen I asked her for a cuff<\/em><\/p>\n

I set a bad example
\nSaying mad dog<\/em> like I did
\nMy secretary left me
\nWhen I bragged about my kid<\/em><\/p>\n

Reagan<\/em> got me beaten
\nBy this black guy I had met
\nI said I loved\u00a0his rhythm<\/em>
\nAnd he answered with a threat<\/p>\n

When I said egg<\/em>, these fairy-fellers
\nChased me from the bus
\nI hollered back: Their fathers
\nMust have taught them how to cuss<\/em><\/p>\n

But two things keep me going
\nAs I struggle with this shit
\nA boob<\/em> is still a boob<\/em>
\nAnd a tit<\/em> is still a tit<\/em><\/p>\n

At the time, I had seriously considered sending this into Playboy magazine — and equivalent competitors — for potential publication.
