I used to think that they inherited that smartness from me \u2013 but I\u2019ve come to realize that my wife is smart, in a broader way than me. (Maybe I\u2019m not as smart as I think I am\u2026?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The way I view things now, is that: \u2014 I\u2019m smart in some directions very narrowly, and my wife is more broadly smart than me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some examples (me);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-left:40px;\"><li>I once won first place in a statewide math contest<\/li><li>I have a \u2019problem solving \/ engineer\u2019 head \u2014 and  can view something, understand it, and determine the best path to fix or improve it (if needed)<\/li><li>I took way too many classes in college, but still ended up with an OK GPA<\/li><li>I worked in the tech industry for decades, was successful, but was a bit of a dork \u2013 so I never really bumped up the management ladder at any company<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>My wife:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-left:40px;\"><li>Is more generally sensible<\/li><li>She might not be able to \u2018out math\u2019 me, but she has a broader perspective \u2013 and generally knows the best path forward<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d like to think that our children got a combination of our capabilities. Maybe they have a \u2018math capable \/ engineering\u2019 head like me, but also have more common sense than me \u2014 and can have a more-successful career than I had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll see how&nbsp;this all turns out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My kids are all smart.
